Why there are no defaults in these tools.
Ask five sources for the swell factor of sandy clay and you will get five answers spanning fifteen percentage points. Applied to a 4,000 yard export, that range is worth more than most contractors make on the job.
So these calculators hold the geometry, which is certain, and ask you for the material properties, which are not. Where a value cannot be computed, it is shown as absent with the reason — never as a plausible-looking zero.
